I have a Fox DHX 4.0 rear shock, and sometimes it bottoms out. What adjustments should i make to avoid this?
it’s suposed to bottom out sometimes, as long as your not bottoming every 5 seconds, its fine, if you are bottoming all the time, then get a bike with longer travel, or get a stiffer spring, you will loose some low speed sensivity though, wich isnt good for downhill, nor AM, because you need constant traction (exept when you jump, obviously)
If you get a DHX5, it has bottom resistance option, and you can control the bottom out, still, this doesnt make it impossible to bottom out, a shock is made to bottom out, say a frame has 200mm rear wheel travel, those 200mm are including when the shock bottoms out.
if you dont want to bottom out, try changing your riding style, absorb more with your legs and arms.
its fine to bottom it out.

PS: dont put anything over 200 PSI, it will voi dwarranty, and the shock will blow, also dont put too much preload, as the spring will bind.
